Jo Squillo Eletrix - Avventurieri (Remix Dance Version)

Jo Squillo started out making riot grrrl teen punk, but like many others also chose to become part of the 80's pop scene. As Jo Squillo Eletrix she released the heavy synth tune Avventurieri in 1983 and the year after a 12" with two new versions of the song was released. This is a beautiful produced song with almost plaintive vocals, even though I have no idea of what is it about.

Bagarre - Dirty Love

Avantgarde new wavish italo from the 1982 album Circus. An album with spacey studio 54 Lemonsweet on it, but also with this moody beauty.

Pat & Pats - Tobago

A dreamy italo boogie track and a serious competitor of Asso's "Don't Stop". If you like that one, you probably like this one too. I really dig the vocal version, which basically consists of choral refrains without any lead vocalists.

Hypnotic 1979 disco, from the record "Dancin & Prancin". Long intro, but when the piano begins - Disco burner!

Bread & Butter - Pink Shadow

Japanese jazz-funk from 1981 by the duo Bread & Butter. The song has beautiful vocals, a killer groove and is smoother than a cashmere codpiece.

London Aircraaft - Rocket In My Pocket

London Aircraaft is some kind of side project by brilliant Kurt Hauenstein of Supermax fame and a true pioneer on the cosmic disco scene, who unfortunately passed away just a couple of weeks ago. Actually London Aircraaft was created to get out of some record deal, and one of the few singles they released was a "version" of Love Machine. Here's a short interview with a very brief Kurt Hauenstein.
This song is quite a sleazy dub-pop anthem, my favourite moment is when the synth kicks in around the 2 minute mark.

Do Piano - Again

Heavy kicks and mid-eighties "poetry" makes this song by Do Piano, a perfect weekend starter. Still not sure about the gender of Do Piano, seems to be some discussions about it on the web. Pretty sure the person in the video is female though.

Baiser - Summer Breeze

Summer Breeze is a cool 80s sleaze track by Baiser - jazzy with smooth vocals:

Band Aid - A Tour In Italy (Dub)

Some beach kalimba disco vibes in this track from 1983 by Italian Band Aid, not to be confused by the British charity group. You probably can't get as far away from "Do they now it's Christmas?" as with this tropical jam.

Frank Zander - Captain Starlight

German comedian, actor and musician Frank Zander made this absurd cosmic disco track in 1979. The English version is by his alias Zazu, but it can't compete with the German version, at least not in my opinion. Listen to the great chorus with echo effects, it's cosmic.

A perfect funky disco cut from one of the greatest African disco artists Buari.

Brando - Rainy day

This is a 1983 italo disco track produced by the legendary Alessandro Zanni and Stefano Cundari (member of Hipnosis and Koto), who founded the label Memory Records. Rainy day has some catchy synths, and also the voice of the singer brings a nice atmosphere to the track. It´s danceable and yet heartfelt.

Amin Peck - My Frames

The music of the Italian group Amin Peck is a fine balance between the colder sounds of new wave and the sleazy sounds of italo disco. Many might have noticed or rediscovered Amin peck with release of "Moda" by Retro/Grade which is an edit of "Coda". The song below is from their last official release in 84, the powerful and simple bass line and the almost hysterical synth are continuous in most of their songs, this is not an exception.

Brazilian sleaze

Sorry for the bad sound quality.

Wally Badarou

Figured it was time to add one of my favourite groove makers, Wally Badarou. As a synthesiser specialist, Wallys keyboard is to be heard on albums by artists like Herbie Hancock and Talking Heads, just to name a few. But my favourite work has to be his solo instrumental album Echoes from 1983. It features a wide range of perfect synth grooves, and I think the studio sessions in Bahamas must have given some tropical inspiration too.
Check out this great interview with the man himself.
